Understanding Foster Care Adoption Process
There
are many children worldwide who are being abandoned, orphaned, and
abused. They are usually put at the foster care where they can be with
their relatives or foster parents. If none of these are available, they
are being cared by group personnel. These Children sleep in one big room
with plenty of children’s beds. Foster care is just their temporary home to live in, until the authorities find a permanent place for them.
These children are often available for adoption. However, there are some of them who will eventually come back to their real parents as soon as it is proven that their parents can now nurture them well.
For those couples out there who want to adopt a child for whatever reasons that they may have, here are the processes:
1. Contact an agency and apply for an adoption.
Once you’ve chosen an agency, you are required to fill up their forms. These forms will serve as the basis of the social worker to match a child according to your guidelines. You can place in the application your personal preferences like the age and gender.
2. Family Assessment starts
The agency, specifically the social workers will begin to assess your family status. These include, your financial capability, family history, criminal background check, and character. This is to ensure that their child will be safe and will have a brighter future under your care.
3. Attend a pre-adoption classes
This will make you learn more about children. In this way, you will be prepared as soon as you’ll take the child home; thus, the period of adjustment becomes easy. You will also learn about trauma, abuse, and other difficult experiences that may affect the child’s development.
4. The social workers will do a home study
As soon as the social workers have already determined the right child for you, they will do a home study after your pre-adoption classes. They want to know on how you can possibly raise a child. They will ask you about your financial status, family history, and childhood experiences.
5. Pre-placement visit
After the home study has done by the social workers, they will decide for the child that matches your preferences. You can take the child at home, but the social workers will still continue to assess your condition with child. As much as possible, provide the best love and care to the child. Prepare a room for him where you can place different furniture like the Japanese furniture to make him feel at home.
6. Final Process
Once both of you and the child feel comfortable with each other’s company, the documents are sent to court. The court will process everything until the name of the child is being transferred to your name.
Once you have successfully adopted the child, you will have the ability to change his life. He will have a real family to call his own. His development will be completed since his needs like love and security will be met. And, the child’s emptiness and pain that he has suffered from his past can be healed.
